English Language Arts: Benchmark Advance
Our core English Language Arts curriculum is Benchmark Advance. This comprehensive literacy program supports students as they develop foundational reading skills, vocabulary, comprehension, writing, speaking, and listening.
Benchmark Advance uses a structured, knowledge-building approach to literacy. Students engage with meaningful literary, informational, science, and social studies texts while learning to read closely, discuss ideas, and communicate their thinking through writing. Instruction includes explicit and systematic foundational-skills practice alongside opportunities for students to apply their learning in authentic reading and writing.
The program also includes scaffolds and differentiated supports for English Learners and students who need additional help accessing grade-level content. Teachers use small-group instruction, targeted lessons, and assessment information to meet students where they are and help them progress.
Through the Benchmark Advance program, Promise Academy ensures that every student develops the robust literacy skills necessary to succeed academically and communicate confidently in their future endeavors.
Science: STEMscopes
Promise Academy uses STEMscopes to make science active, meaningful, and connected to the world around us. Through hands-on investigations, questioning, collaboration, and evidence-based discussion, students learn to think like scientists and engineers.
STEMscopes gives students opportunities to explore scientific concepts through inquiry and problem-solving. Rather than only memorizing facts, students ask questions, investigate, analyze information, explain their thinking, and apply what they learn. This approach builds curiosity, scientific literacy, and confidence.
Social Studies: Studies Weekly
Our social studies curriculum, Studies Weekly, helps students explore history, geography, civics and government, economics, and culture through engaging, student-friendly materials.
The program uses interactive print and digital resources to help students connect social studies learning to their communities and the wider world. Students build knowledge through reading, discussion, activities, and primary-source exploration while developing the critical-thinking skills needed to become informed, engaged citizens.
Intervention and Academic Support: i-Ready
Promise Academy uses i-Ready as part of our intervention and academic-support program. i-Ready helps teachers understand students’ individual strengths and areas for growth in reading and mathematics.
Using this information, teachers can provide targeted support and students can work through personalized lessons matched to their current needs. i-Ready is one tool we use to help close learning gaps, reinforce important skills, and support students in accessing grade-level instruction with confidence.
