Assessments
Assessments are essential because we want to develop the detailed knowledge of scholars’ understandings and misunderstandings necessary to teach with precision. To ensure that instruction is effective and scholars are on the trajectory to mastering standards, we administer daily exit tickets, bi-weekly assessments, quarterly content assessments and performance tasks.
We ensure that both teachers and scholars use assessment data to create a pathway for reaching their goals. Teachers use the data from these assessments to adjust instruction to meet scholars’ collective and individual needs. Scholars analyze their data through monthly data chats with their teacher where they discuss strengths and areas for improvement and set long and short term goals.
We administer
- iReady, a predictive growth assessment, three times a year and interim assessments quarterly. We use the iReady assessment to measure growth from Fall to Spring. The data is used to differentiate instruction, form groups and determine intervention needs for all scholars. We administer the iReady in the fall, winter, and spring for math, reading, and language arts.
- STEP is a diagnostic reading assessment that determines scholars’ reading levels. We administer STEP Reading diagnostic 3 times a year-fall, winter, and spring.
- Interim assessments are used as a roadmap for teaching at the beginning of each cycle. We administer interim assessments in our core subjects: Reading, Math, and Science every 9 weeks.
- Frequent assessments such as exit tickets and informal teacher observations give teachers the opportunities to practice diagnosing the problem and addressing it in the classroom.
